Not Sure What You Want to Be When You Grow Up? You’re Not Alone! Complete an Interest Inventory for Some Inspiration!
Are you in the process of trying to figure out which colleges you should apply to, what programs sound interesting and ultimately what seems like a career field you would want to work in? Do you feel lost in the sea of options, and feel pressure, whether from family and friends or self-inflicted, about your future? Taking an interest inventory can help!
In case you are not familiar with interest inventories, let’s spend a minute describing them. There are different inventories available, administered by various companies. They are typically offered online, and take about 20-30 minutes to complete. After you answer the questions, your skill sets are matched with your interest areas and career options, some that you may never have heard of or considered, that you may excel in are listed. From there, whether through the interest inventory software if available, or through your own research, you should investigate the options to determine if they are truly areas you may wish to pursue or learn more about.
An interest inventory is not meant to determine your life’s passion and work for you. But they are tools to help you identify your skill sets (sometimes we don’t realize something we do well is a skill because it’s something that we are naturally good at and never gave much thought to) and offer possible career options based on them.
