Where Do NH Graduates Attend College?

Interested to find out where recent high school graduates decided to attend college?  Here are the figures for the top 20 schools that New Hampshire high school graduates attended in 2010 and the corresponding number of students that went there.  Originally I was only going to include the top 10 colleges, but I thought it was interesting that even in the top 20, only 4 of those colleges are out-of-state.

University of New Hampshire-Main Campus1528
NHTI-Concord's Community College 713
Nashua Community College 555
Plymouth State University 535
Keene State College 528
Manchester Community College 457
Great Bay Community College 342
Lakes Region Community College 326
Southern New Hampshire University 249
Northern Essex Community College 200
White Mountains Community College 180
River Valley Community College 167
Rivier College 132
Saint Anselm College 120
University of Vermont 106
Colby-Sawyer College 102
Northeastern University 99
University of New Hampshire at Manchester 96
Boston University 89
New England College 78

These numbers dispel the myth that the majority of NH students go to school outside of NH.  In fact, a good portion stay local.  What do you think about these numbers?  Do they surprise you?  If so, why?

Best,
Val

Very interesting, seems that a lot of students in NH realize the value that state schools provide. Good to remember though, there are many schools across the US and it is up to the individual to decide which is the best fit for them. Don't choose a school solely based a friend's choice.

This list is interesting - everyone in high school always says "When I go to college, I'm going far away". From this data, they are staying right here in NH. Great post!

Wow, thanks for sharing this. I would have never have guessed that 5 out of the top 8 schools are the local community colleges here in New Hampshire. This is especially interesting in light of the proposed funding cuts to the Community College system at the state level.
