Time to Give Back!

It’s almost June and it’s time to start thinking about what you are going to do with those two months off from school.  You may have part-time jobs, be involved in sports or other activities, and are planning college visits, and I know that summer is also a time to relax and hang out with friends, but also consider donating a couple of hours a week to a worthy cause.  I found an article on collegeboard outlining different reasons to volunteer such as gaining valuable life skills and meeting interesting people, and let’s not forget that it will look great on a college resume.  But volunteering can also make you feel good.  At the end of the day, no matter how you decide to volunteer your time you get to go home knowing that you did something to make someone else’s day a little easier, or the community a little brighter.

Start thinking of ways that you would like to volunteer your time.  Giving back does not have to equal boring.  Maybe you love reading and working with kids; your local library may be in need of a story-time reader.  Maybe you love animals; perhaps there is a local shelter or SPCA that could use help walking the dogs.  There are endless possibilities.  It doesn’t matter what you do; just do something!

If you are already volunteering someplace, tell us what you are doing!

Off to volunteer,
Val

Hi Val- Great Blog! This summer I will be working at trying some things out in the career world. I'm still not sure what I want to do after graduation, but I thought I would try some things out this summer. When a lot of my friends are working at the local grocery store, which I will be doing, I blocked off two days a week for job shadows, informational interviews, and volunteer work. I'm hoping that something will spark my interests...(Also getting some surf time in at the Wall in Hampton, but still taking advantage of my summer!) I can't wait to volunteer this summer!! Enjoy your summer as well, keep the blogs coming!!
