Tips to Help Meet Deadlines
Hello again,
I'm hoping that all of you are still doing great in your classes and enjoying the slightly warmer weather we are having! I just went on a little vacation with my foster family and low and behold, I realized that I had a few deadlines that I had to meet while I was away. Deadlines are a crucial part not only of the college process, but everyday life as well. You can never escape a deadline whether it is for school, work, or an event that you are planning or attending. Almost everyone I know, including myself, is guilty of missing a deadline or barely meeting it by finishing it on the day it is due. So let's talk about remembering deadlines - here are some helpful tips that have gotten me a little bit better at meeting my due dates.
When you have a lot on your mind and many things to get done, your brain may get things confused. Being involved in many groups and organizations as well as still being in school and planning for college, I have a lot on my plate. One thing that makes everything a little easier is keeping an agenda/calendar (and updating it as things change!). I would be completely lost without it. I strongly recommend that anyone that has a hard time remembering appointments or when things are due invest in an agenda (sometimes called a daytimer) . Mine has both a monthly calendar as well as a weekly section that I can track my projects or homework assignments. You don't have to spend a large amount of money on one; you can get them almost anywhere and for a reasonable price. Just get one that has what you need and what would benefit you the most. And, you can always go online and create your own to-do lists. www.rememberthemilk.com is one that I use all the timeā¦check it out!
Another little thing that I found very useful is sticky notes. You can put sticky notes almost anywhere, which makes it very easy to place them somewhere that you will be sure to see them, and it will help you remember things because you will see it all the time (I have some neon ones in funky colors that really grab my attention). I also have found that when I tell my foster mom my deadlines, I tend to remember it even more because she reminds me. Share your to-do list with someone close to you, and hopefully they can help you stay on top of all of your deadlines!
I hope these few little ideas help you get threw your busy days.
Best of luck,
Meryssa

I agree that staying organized is key to the college application process! If you are a gmail user, gmail and other email amounts have calendars. These programs also send reminders to your email from your calendar!
