You hear it all the time: “Apply for as many scholarships as you can.” But that begs the question, “How do I go about finding the scholarships, applying for them and hopefully receiving them?” For information about all these things, and tips to begin your scholarship application process, watch our webinar offered on Thursday, March 24 at 6:15 p.m. To register, click here.
And while I think it is really important that students apply for scholarships, I also think it is important that they have a clear understanding of some of the misconceptions that have been circulating about them. As many of us know, receiving scholarships can help defray the cost of college. But as the recent article in the Washington Post suggests, many people overestimate the amount of money that they may be able to apply to their college costs directly from scholarship winnings. While it is important to apply for all opportunities in the hopes of being the recipient of some free money, it is also important to remain realistic and know that even with all the effort you may put into the application process, it does not work as favorably for each person. In the end, students should choose a college based on the financial aid offered and what they and their families can afford. Any scholarships received are icing on the cake; taking from your out-of-pocket costs to attend your school of choice.
See you on March 24th,
Val

Hi - am looking forward to this webinar as my son has just completed an application for the NH Charitable Fund. What other types of scholarship searches will you talk about?
Thanks!
