Valentine’s Day on Campus
Hey, Bloggers:
Can you guess which day in February every college student looks forward to experiencing!? Here is a hint: it involves lots of pink and red decorations, hearts and glittery cards, flowers and candy, dating and romance! For college students, V-Day can be a little hectic. For those in a relationship, Valentine’s is a day devoted to making significant others feel special and loved, but it can also get pretty expensive; for those who are “seeing” someone but aren’t officially “with” them, it can just be kind of awkward deciding whether or not you should spend time together; and for those who are single, it’s the most obnoxious day of the year and should never have been invented. So, I came up with some ideas for everyone on campus to try and make the most out of their Valentine’s Day this year.
For all of you campus love birds that want to have fun your significant other without breaking your bank, try doing something fun and low cost instead of flashy and expensive. Things like making dinner together, renting a movie, and exchanging back massages are always enjoyable; or going to a small restaurant, a campus sporting event, or a campus movie night would be fun, too. Yes, we all want to make the person we love feel important and as though they deserve the finest things in life, but we’re college students and the finest things in life right now are laughing until we cry and being able to sleep in. The five star restaurants and weekend getaways will come soon enough!
Now, for all of you ladies and gents who are casually “seeing” someone or are single, going out with a group of people, instead of one-on-one or staying in by yourself, is sure to make you feel 100x better about the whole V-Day situation. Going to a sporting event on campus, sharing a few appetizers with friends, or even a rendezvous to the dining hall can lead to lots of great conversation; or heading to a bowling alley, playing a board game, or heading to a mountain for a day of skiing/snowboarding could be so much fun! Just think of all of things you’d like to do when it isn’t Valentine’s Day and you’ll be all set!
Remember: Valentine’s Day isn’t just about couples celebrating their relationship; it’s about showing the people you love, whether they are your boyfriend, girlfriend, crush, friend or family member, that you care. You don’t have to spend all kinds of money or buy extravagant gifts to tell someone you care, either. All it takes is spending some time together, a card or a phone call to let them know they are special and being thought of. So make the most of your V-Day this year—save your money and make the important people in your life smile—I promise you won’t regret it.
Wishing you all the best,
Kendra
