Understanding the FAFSA

Happy Financial Aid Season!

Some of you have already taken the first step and filed your FAFSA.  Others know that the time is nearing to get those forms completed.  Whether or not you have gone through the process yet or are about to embark on that adventure, there is some useful information you can arm yourselves with to fully understand the process.  Understanding what information needs to be entered into the form is great and necessary, but it is important to be aware of how the information will be utilized by the government and the colleges.

I recently came across this article that I think articulates well some of the financial aid points we speak to often in our office; how student assets are calculated in the EFC (Expected Family Contribution), what may constitute a special circumstance and what are the all-important FAFSA deadlines.  Check it out for some easy to understand explanations.

And remember, you do not have to go through this process alone.  We can file your FAFSA with you and complete the registration portion of the CSS Profile application if your student needs to submit that additional form.  To schedule your appointment, or to ask questions about anything related to the process or the forms, call 888.7.GRADUATE ext. 119

File your forms today,
Val

Great article, Val! With all that the new year brings, filing the FAFSA may not be the most exciting thing on your list. However, it is essential to complete accurately and on time in order to receive financial aid. Don't hesitate to book an appointment with one of our counselors to file your FAFSA! Hope to see you soon!
