Guidance Office: A Wealth of Information

Hey Readers,

I hope you are all enjoying your school days so far, I know I am! Within the first few weeks that I've been in school there has been 10 colleges that visited my school and lots of new information about scholarships and SAT/ACT tests. So this blog is going to be a mixture of a few different things that I hope will be useful for you.

First of all when colleges come and visit your school, my advice is not to just go to all of them to get out of class. I would recommend that you only go to the ones you are actually interested in. One reason why is you will miss all the information in the class you missed while going to see the rep from the college, and that means more homework for you. Secondly you are taking up a seat for someone that might truely be intrested in that college.

When I went to see my guidance counselor I asked her about scholarships and different ways to pay for college. She showed me a few scholorships that she knew of. She also told me that my school is always finding out about new scholorships so keeping up on them is key. She also gave me a few pamphlets about ways to pay for college such as grants, student loans, and other special scholarships I may be eligible for.

She also gave me a bunch of papers and packets about the SAT/ACT's. The one thing that all the standardized tests have in common is the earlier you register and the more you study, the better off you will be. Also, for those of you who don't know, many people qualify for an SAT waiver (a little piece of paper that makes the SAT free). Your guidance counselor can tell you more about it, but what I can tell you is anyone qualifying for free or reduced lunch or students that are in foster care qualify for the SAT waiver.

Well I hope these little bits of information that I found out are useful for you and as always if you have a topic that you would like me to blog about leave me a comment and I will do my best to answer your question or give you information about a certain topic.

Until Next Time,

Meryssa
