Meryssa is Back!

Hello Readers!

Welcome back to my blog where I give you a first hand look on what it is like being a ‘youth-in-care’ on the road to college. If you have read my past blogs you will already know that I have been a ‘youth-in-care’ since the middle of my sophomore year. You will also know that I always try to pack my blogs full of useful information from scholarships that 'youth-in-care’ can receive, to study tips to help tackle those tough tests.

For those of you who are new to reading my blog I will give you a little run down about me. My name is Meryssa and I am now a senior at a high school in southern New Hampshire. I am also going to be the first to graduate high school and go off to a four year college in my entire family.

As most of us are starting school or are already in school I find it very important to jump into school head first. I know it is just starting and it is still very hot outside (trust me, I would love to be at the beach) but the first few days of a new school year give everyone a new first impression of you. The reason I say a new first impression is because some people still go to the same school and have some of the same teachers, but think about how much you have matured over the summer. Teachers look at you as a fresh face. This is the perfect time for a fresh start and a new first impression. So my advice to you is to not look back on your previous years of school. Instead, look forward and say this is what I want to achieve by the end of this year and this is how I am going to get there.

For example, this year I want to make sure I pass my math class so I can graduate. So I would get there by paying attention in class (without texting), taking notes, studying for tests, and the big one, asking questions. Many of you will have a good amount of things you want to achieve this year, so my advice to you is to tackle one or two at a time so you don’t overwhelm yourself. My last piece of advice to you is if you have any concerns about your credits or any classes, make an appointment to see your guidance counselor as soon as possible so you don’t have to worry about anything. This will give you more time to focus on school.

I hope this blog helped in getting you ready for school. As always if you have a topic or any question you would like answered feel free to leave me a comment and I will do my best to give you the best advice and information possible.

Welcome back,

Meryssa
