Senioritis…What is it?

According to Wikipedia, it is:
-A tendency in high school seniors to become so excited about the end of school and graduation that they spend too much time in social activities.
-A tendency of high school seniors to skip class or otherwise slack off due to a desire to move on.
-A term used in the United States to describe the decreased motivation toward studies displayed by students who are nearing the end of their high school, college or graduate school careers.

I didn't take the definition to heart until it started happening to me. I always thought it was silly to think that there was an actual word for something like this. But then I began thinking, with graduation and everything else going on, why would kids not do their work? Then it hit me, I have senioritis. It’s like a disease I can't get rid of.  I say I'll catch up on all my work this weekend and then I decide to go out with friends that are going to college far away from me. Knowing I have tons of homework doesn’t always matter; I'd rather go out and spend time with my friends that I might not see very often when we're in college. However, I did realize that if I didn't keep up with my work I wouldn't graduate; I had to come up with a plan. I talked to my parents about helping me stick with a plan so that I wouldn't fall behind. We compromised on a solution. We decided I wouldn't go out with friends on school nights at all. Monday through Thursday nights I would stay home and work on school work. Weekends I could spend all the time in the world with my friends! So far it's worked out great!  My friends, family and graduation have all kept me motivated. Some of my friends have even begun doing the same thing as me.

My advice would be to keep graduation your motivation to want to do well and not slack off. Talk to your parents about it and have them try to keep you motivated. Also talk to your friends. Giving yourself boundaries and having your friends and family support those will help a great deal.

Are any of you experiencing senioritis?  If so, what are you doing to overcome it?

Senioritis is just crazy, isn't it? I am using my planner to actually block off time to study - and then to block off time to hang with my buds. I'm really looking forward to vacation next week, because then I really just have to work for another 6 weeks and I am DONE with high school. Do you know if it's true that colleges will want to see your final transcript to see your grades from your senior year?

Senioritis hit me hard and I found myself letting a few things slide as the school year was ending. There was no way around the need to just stay focused. I had to find the ability to buckle down and that ability has proven beneficial recently as well.
