Guidance Appointment: Book Early!
(written by Rising STAR, Meryssa)
Hey Readers!
Have any of you (especially those of you who are juniors and seniors) ever gone to your school guidance counselor and asked about how to apply for scholarships and how to get the college process started? Well I did just that today and I found out it is not as easy as it seems. In my case there are a few roadblocks. For example, I found out that a class I took freshman year that I thought would cover my business credit doesn’t cover the business credit it just counts as an elective. I also found out what classes I need to make up in order to become a full senior next year because as my readers in foster care or any other form of placement know it isn’t easy staying on track while getting started in foster care. I also asked my guidance counselor what classes I need to take senior year to graduate on time so I can start college in the fall of 2011. Since learning all of this, my advice to you is to try to see your guidance counselor at least once a month if you are on track to graduate.
So let’s review...My advice is to see your guidance counselor at school AT LEAST once a month to check up on how you are doing so you can stay on course to graduate. Also the better you know your guidance counselor, the better they will be as a reference and a resource because they will really know you and the school/career path you want to take.
Happy Holidays to all of my readers!

Great advice, Meryssa! I'll pass it along to my students.
