Welcome to Our First Rising STARs blog!

My name is Meryssa and I am your typical high school junior. I attend a public high school and split my day also going to a trade school in southern New Hampshire. At the trade school, I study health science since I want to go to college to become a registered nurse (RN). I like to write, draw, take pictures, volunteer, hang out with my friends, go online, and talk on the phone. On top of my school stresses I have the added stress of being a foster child.

I have been in foster care for the past six months and it is not easy. You have all sorts of appointments and meetings; it’s hard to stay focused on everything. So I’m here to tell you that you are not alone and we can get through high school and college. It will not be easy, but I know if I can do it, you can too.

As the first person in my family who is going to graduate from high school and go on to college, I know there are going to be a lot of questions that need answers. What do I want to study in college? What college do I want to go to? How do I apply? What clubs or sports do I want to do? What’s it going to be like? And the big one: How much is it going to cost me? While I’m doing this internship I hope to answer all of these questions and any others you may have.

In the next few months, I am going to be writing about this new and exciting experience that all of us are going through as part of the Joe College Blog. I hope, along with the other blog writers, we provide you information and encouragement to pursue your college dreams. So tell me - what questions do you have about college?

Just remember you can do anything you set your mind to.

Smiles-
Meryssa
