Tips for Today’s Job Seeker…What Does Author Richard Nelson Bolles Recommend?
Have you ever heard of the book, What Color is Your Parachute?, by Richard Nelson Bolles? If you haven’t, you need to know that What Color is Your Parachute? has been a leading best seller for decades. Yes, you read that correctly, decades. This book has been labeled by some as the bible of job seekers and those in career transition. I happened upon this book back in the early 1980’s (when I was in my own career transition) and credit it with getting me into the field of career development as a profession. I learned quite a bit from Bolles about networking and other job search strategies. While it wasn’t a quick read (still isn’t), I found it to be full of pearls of wisdom, insightful exercises, and practical advice. Of course it’s been modified quite a bit since then (it gets updated every year) so the advice within it is current and in keeping with job market/job search trends. I wanted to know what Bolles has to say about searching for work in this current job market so I did some online research and found this. I think you will find it to be a worthwhile read…
If you like what you learn, be sure to check out Bolles’ web site at www.jobhuntersbible.com. During a recent trip to his site, I learned that he has a new 100 page book that’s entitled, The Job-Hunters’ Survival Guide: How to Find Hope and Rewarding Work, Even When ‘There Are No Jobs’. Hey, now that sounds like a great addition to my own personal (and never ending) collection of career resources!
Until next time…
