Life with Lauryn is Back!
Hey Everyone! I’m back here with the college counselors at the CCP…and now - I’m a senior in high school! Summer definitely went by too fast. So what’s new with me? Planning for college!
I’ve started the application process for college and parts of it can be kind of scary. There are most definitely a lot of things that need to be considered when getting ready to apply – so let me share some tips I’ve learned that might help you:
- Meet with your guidance counselor and get any necessary paperwork or forms (like recommendations) that need to be filled out by teachers, guidance, you, etc. (Just an FYI - I know at my school the school sends our college material for us as long as we get our applications together and information. We just need to fill out the necessary paperwork!)
- Narrow down your schools (not sure of what schools you should look at – meet with a counselor here at the CCP to develop your list!
- Make visits to the schools on your list. It doesn’t have to be a formal admissions tour for right now. Go for a sporting event, a musical performance – something that gets you on a campus so you can get the vibe of the school.
- Register to take the SAT and/or ACT.
- Start filling out college applications and checking financial aid deadlines for each of the schools you are applying to.
Being a junior or a senior in high school can be hard when it comes to figuring out if you are where you should be. I know at times I wonder if I am on track and what more do I need to do to get ready. I know one helpful resource that has helped me tremendously is the College Insider. The Insider takes you through every part of the college process from the interview to writing a resume. If you haven’t gotten your copy yet, and you are a junior or senior, call the Center for College Planning at 1-800-525-2577, ext. 119 and ask for a copy today!
Giving you the inside scoop,
Lauryn
