SAT's

On Saturday May 2nd, I took my SATs. It was a day of nothing but math, reading, and writing, and a very long 3 hours and 45 minutes.

The day of the test I was kind of nervous, but at the same time not so much. I had taken an SAT Prep class that was offered at my school.  This gave me some useful information that I knew I wouldn’t get from the book that most people use. I felt taking this class was helpful, because when I finished taking the SATs, I was able to say, “Well, it was hard, but there was nothing that I didn’t expect.” I also didn’t get too nervous because I knew that it was my first time taking the test. I will be taking them a couple more times in the Fall to try and improve my scores. I have learned from the college counselors here at NHHEAF that colleges will take my highest subject scores even if they are from different tests.

I also know that the Center for College Planning offers an hour-long workshop titled “Know the Score” which talks about the SAT. The workshop discusses how the test is scored, what schools are looking for in the writing section, and the differences between the SAT and ACT. Check out the CCP’s schedule at www.nhheaf.org/events.asp to see when it is being offered. It is a free alternative to taking an all out SAT prep class.
Just remember...

The Night Before taking the SAT:
• Get a GOOD NIGHTS REST! I’m sure you have been studying the past couple of days, take the night off and relax.

Day of Taking the SAT:
• Eat a good breakfast. (This may require waking up earlier then you want too!)
• Bring Calculator (and extra batteries)
• Bring 2 -number 2 pencils
• Bring a snack
• Bring your registration ticket

Is anyone taking the SATs in June? How about the ACT's? Does anyone have a preference for either test?

Testing, Testing, Testing…
