Stay on Track
The number of things to do and deadlines to meet in the transition to college can be overwhelming at times. With so much to keep track of on top of going to school everyday, it can be very easy to get lost in the confusion and miss an important step. Lucky for you, the College Board has developed a master to-do list broken down by month. Keep these in mind over the next couple of weeks.
November
• If you are considering early decision or early action, be sure to submit your applications on time.
• Continue to write and edit your college essay. Proofread it carefully and make corrections. Ask a teacher to offer suggestions to further develop your writing. Remember, the college essay is your opportunity to let your personality shine through.
• Follow up with recommendations. Check in with teachers and counselors to make sure your recommendations were sent out on time. Teachers write recommendations for many students so a simple reminder is always helpful.
• If you are applying to schools with rolling admissions, send out applications as soon as possible. These schools usually accept students on a first come first serve basis. The earlier you get your application in, the better chance you have to get admitted.
December
• Work on wrapping up your applications before winter break. It will be a much more enjoyable vacation if you do not have to worry about finishing your applications. Also, make copies before you send them off to schools.
• Take the SAT’s. Even if you have already taken them, retaking the SAT’s can only help your chances of admission. Your best scores are sent to the colleges.
• Early Action or Early Decision applications should arrive this month.
